Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2026-2040, Jeb Dunnuck, Mar 2026

Deep purple-hued, the 2023 Pavillon De Léoville Poyferré has a beautiful nose of crème de cassis, graphite, spicy wood, and smoky tobacco nuances. Based on 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Petit Verdot and aged 18 months in second-fill French oak barrels, it's medium to full-bodied and round, with a pure, layered, graceful mouthfeel and sweet tannins. This beautiful second wine will drink nicely for 10-15 years or more. Drink 2026-2040.

The 2023 Pavillon de Léoville-Poyferré is terrific. Beautifully perfumed and light on its feet, the Pavillon is all class. Bright red-toned fruit, mint, white pepper and blood orange all grace the palate. The balance here is built on finesse, restraint and subtlety.

The 2023 Pavillon de Léoville-Poyferré is quite understated on the nose, but it opens with aeration, sea-influenced black fruit, cedar and, with time, a touch of leather. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. Moderate weight, hints of cinnamon and spice box coming through, with a composed finish. This is quite approachable, although I would still afford it a few months in bottle.

55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petit Verdot. Cask sample. Supple, round and juicy with a lighter tannic frame. Slightly austere finish. Misses some fruit. (JL)
