2023 Clos Romanile

The 2023 Clos Romanile comes from a single hectare of vine aged entirely in new oak. To be honest, the fruit just about manages to soak up the new oak on the nose, although I would have dialed it down a little to expose more of the terroir. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine acidity, lightly spiced with black pepper and allspice on the finish. A little heady in style, give this two or three years in bottle.

Red, blue, and black fruits, scorched earth, graphite, and smoky notes all emerge from the 2023 Clos Romanile, a medium-bodied, concentrated, ripe, beautifully textured Saint-Emilion. It brings lots of fruit and will shine for at least a decade. This terrific estate is owned by Remi Dalmasso, who is the winemaker behind the sensational quality of Château Valandraud. Thie wine comes from a tiny vineyard in the eastern region of the appellation and is mostly Merlot with a small amount of Cabernet Franc. It's always impeccably made, and my money is on the 2023 easily being an outstanding wine.

The 2023 Clos Romanile is a gorgeous wine from Remi Dalmasso, who oversees winemaking at all the Thunevin projects. Crushed flowers and bright red/purplish fruit open first, followed by a kick of vibrant acids that lend freshness. This mid-weight, succulent Saint-Émilion certainly has plenty to offer.
