The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Craipillot 1er Cru has a light nose, possibly picked earlier than its peers, more "airy" in style and just missing a little presence. That said, it is nicely defined. The palate offers bitter red fruit on the entry with lots of sour cherry, quite edgy but perhaps just needing more substance to flesh out the finish. Par for the course and under my estimation from barrel. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Tank sample. Pale garnet. A light vegy note. Not the ripest. A little tight rather than fresh. Finishes very suddenly. (JR)
The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Craipillot 1er Cru is more backward, less expressive on the nose than the Au Closeau. Light blue fruit permeate the brambly red fruit, with hints of cold black tea and bay leaf. The palate is medium-bodied with finely-chiselled tannins, elegant and refined. The 60% new oak is neatly enmeshed on the finish. Good potential here.
