Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2028-2045, Jeb Dunnuck, Mar 2026

A solid step up, with beautiful richness and depth, the 2023 Château Mauvesin Barton checks in as 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot, and 1% Cabernet Franc that was raised 12-15 months in one-third new French oak. It has outstanding aromatics of black cherries, spicy wood, graphite, and chalky minerality. Medium to full-bodied, with ample mid-palate depth, ripe yet present tannins, and a great finish, it will benefit from a few years of bottle age and should see its 20th birthday in fine form. Drink 2028-2045.

Punteggio 88/100 · Da bere 2027-2037, Neal Martin, Feb 2026

The 2023 Mauvesin Barton, closed under Diam since 2022, has quite a rich nose, richer than expected, with cassis and kirsch scents. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, gentle grip, a little powdery in texture, with just a little attenuation toward the finish. This needs a few months to knit together and just muster a tad more precision.

Coming from a vintage where the estate experienced mildew, frost, and a touch of hail, the 2023 Château Mauvesin Barton is deep purple-hued and reveals solid aromatics of pretty red berries, raspberries, sappy flowers, and subtle tobacco and herbal notes. A pretty, medium-bodied, elegant Moulis with bright acidity and fine yet building tannins, the blend is 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot, and 1% Cabernet Franc, hitting 13.4 alcohol, raised in one-third new oak. Harvest here stretched from the 14th to the 26th of September.

On the fruity side with a focus on blackberries and cherries, the medium-bodied wine is fresh, chewy, savory, and chalky with a nice, red berry note that comes in at the end. The wine will be easy to enjoy on release. The wine blends 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot, and 1% Cabernet Franc.
