FINE+RARE, Apr 2024

Jonathan Maltus’s flagship wine is impressive in 2023. The nose is full of delicious blackcurrant and cherry fruit, giving way to an open palate which reveals plums and a touch of liquorice. This finish is long-lasting, with plenty of tannin lingering, but so well-balanced that it already feels open and ready to go. 14.1% alcohol. Blend: 80% Cabernet Franc, 20% Merlot

Based on 80% Cabernet Franc and 20% Merlot from a mix of the Mazaret and Gaste Bourse lieux-dits and aged 20 months in 80% new French oak, the 2023 Le Dôme offers cassis, liquid violets, graphite, new leather, candied orange, and exotic florals. Medium to full-bodied, it has beautiful concentration, a deep, layered, elegant mouthfeel, integrated acidity, and a great finish. It's a gorgeous effort that will drink well over the coming two decades. Drink 2026-2048.

The 2023 Le Dôme is magnificent. Vibrant red-toned fruit, pomegranate, leather, mocha and dried herbs soar from the glass. Layered and supple, with magnificent balance, the 2023 is just superb. Its purity is really something. Seamless, polished tannins wrap it all up in style. I look forward to seeing how this ages.

The 2023 Le Dôme, which now includes younger vines from Les Asteries, had a quite delightful bouquet with black cherries, black plum and a touch of glossiness, but it retains fine delineation and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with supple black plum and bilberry fruit. Fine weight and delineation on the finish. Certainly, the best wine from Jonathan Malthus this year, though it will need a couple of years in bottle. Tasted twice in Bordeaux and Chelsea.
