Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2029-2044, Jeb Dunnuck, Mar 2026

Coming from more gravelly hillsides (with some deeper clay), the 2023 Château Le Boscq is a classic Saint-Estèphe based on 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot, and 1% Cabernet Franc, aged 12 months in 25% new French oak. It has a textbook profile of blue fruits, damp earth, graphite, and sappy, almost minty herbs on the nose, and on the palate it's concentrated and medium to full-bodied, with a ripe, textured mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a great finish. Give bottles a few years to gain a touch more harmony and elegance and drink over the following 15 or more years. Drink 2029-2044.

The 2023 Le Boscq is a gorgeous, super-expressive Saint-Estèphe. Mocha, espresso, lavender and dried herbs resonate off a core of dark-fleshed fruit. The creamy mid-palate makes the 2023 quite approachable, even in the early going.

The 2023 Le Boscq was a dark horse out of barrel. In bottle, it retains a very promising, well-defined and quite elegant bouquet with blackberry and boysenberry fruit, well-integrated oak with touches of spice box. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chewy tannins, but there is a keen line of acidity, peppery in style, with a classically styled finish. Give it three or four years in bottle.

Darker currants, lead pencil, smoked earth, and a hint of leather all emerge from the 2023 Château Le Boscq, a medium to full-bodied, concentrated, nicely balanced, focused 2023 that has ample mid-palate depth, ripe, integrated tannins, and the purity and vibrancy of the vintage. It’s a beautiful, clearly outstanding wine in the making.
