FINE+RARE, Apr 2024

This took a while to open up in the glass but gradually reveals aromas of black cherry and violets. The palate is tightly packed with blackcurrant and layers of peppery spice. With 40h/ha produced, yields are back in line with the average following two difficult vintages (2021 and 2022), and 13.9% alcohol. The 2023 has a good core of fruit and a particularly long finish. Blend: 89% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc

A gorgeous, round, supple Pomerol that has tons to love, the 2023 Château Gazin offers spicy wood, sappy flowers, and ripe red and black fruits on the nose. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has a pure, graceful, layered, very complete mouthfeel, ripe and polished tannins, juicy acidity, and a great finish. This sexy little gem will shine for two decades. Give it a few years if you can. Drink 2028-2048.

The 2023 Gazin shows better today than it did en primeur . It’s a powerful, bold wine, that much is obvious. But there’s also an element of classicism that is quite attractive. Dark red cherry/plum fruit, blood orange, white pepper and mint open gradually in the glass. There’s quite a bit of potential here. I look forward to seeing how this ages.

The 2023 Gazin has a relatively light nose with black plum and briar scents. I would have preferred more fruit intensity, more vigor. The palate is medium-bodied with svelte tannins. Lovely mouthfeel here, poised and focused with an underlying mineralité that comes through on the finish. What you might call a "capable" Pomerol that I wager will be delicious at several years of age.
