Punteggio 89/100 · Da bere 2029-2041, Jeb Dunnuck, Mar 2026

A blend of 51% Merlot, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Petit Verdot that spent 12 months in a mix of new oak, one- and two-year barrels, and amphora, the 2023 Château Fourcas Hosten sports a deep ruby/plum hue as well as a complex nose of red and black fruits, saddle leather, dried herbs, and flowers. It's medium-bodied on the palate, with firmer tannins, good overall balance, and outstanding length. I like its complexity as well as its overall character. Give it just a few years of bottle age and enjoy over the following 15 years or more. Drink 2029-2041.

The 2023 Fourcas Hosten is just a bit blowsy on the nose and is missing the delineation and clarity of its peers at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine acidity, though it needs more complexity, especially toward the rather austere finish.

Lots of ripe red and black fruits, spice, sappy flowers, and some chocolaty oak all emerge from the 2023 Château Fourcas Hosten, a medium-bodied, round, supple, nicely textured 2023 that will have plenty of upfront charm and character.

Cedar, tobacco, spearmint, and currants hit your nose. On the palate, the medium-bodied wine is fresh, fruity, peppery, and forward, making it perfect for early drinking pleasure.
