Punteggio 91-94/100 · Jeb Dunnuck, May 2024

From vines just south of Angélus (just 3 hectares), the 2023 Château Bellevue is all Merlot raised in 50% new oak, with a small portion in foudre. It has a great nose of ripe red and black fruits, chocolaty oak, and graphite that gives way to more spice and savory flower notes with time in the glass. Medium-bodied and balanced, with terrific concentration (especially in the vintage), this balanced, textured, impressive 2023 is worth seeking out.

The wine pops with aromas of roses, violets, cherries, plum, and cocoa. Balanced between its racy, and elegant side, the wine is long, vibrant, clean, and pure, with silky, velvet-tannins, and a refined character in the finish that sticks with you. While the wine feels light on its feet, the finish really holds on, leaving you with vivid, sweet, red cherries that linger. The key to the wine here is the length of the harvest as they spent 3 weeks picking 3 hectares of vines! Produced from 100% old, vine Merlot, 14% ABV.

A juicy and flavorful wine already. Medium-bodied and chewy, yet fresh. Lots of blackberry. It’s structured and fleshy considering the vintage. Pure merlot.

The 2023 Bellevue is a powerful, vibrant Saint-Émilion. Dark red-toned fruit, orange peel, spice, mint and white pepper confer brightness and energy. Saline underpinnings extend the finish while adding palpable tension.
