Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2028-2043, Jeb Dunnuck, Mar 2026

A 100% Merlot from clay and deeper gravelly soils, the 2023 Clos Beauregard sports a deep ruby/plum hue as well as classic Pomerol notes of black cherries, plums, scorched earth, and smoky tobacco and chocolate nuances. Aged 12 months in 30-40% new French oak, it's medium to full-bodied on the palate, with a plump, layered mouthfeel, ripe yet building tannins, and a great finish. Give it 2-3 years and enjoy over the following 15 or so. Drink 2028-2043.

The 2023 Beauregard is quite attractive. Dark-toned fruit, leather, menthol, spice, pipe tobacco and cedar are nicely pushed forward. The mid-weight red has a lot to offer. At the same time, I expected to see a bit more depth in the mid-palate relative to how the en primeur sample showed.

Deep merlot fruit aromas with a chalky, lightly peppery edge. Plush yet quite restrained. Well judged and precise, with ripe, juicy fruit and fine, satiny tannins that are polished yet tense and cohesive. Medium- to full-bodied with an elegant finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

Chocolate, flowers, black cherries, plums, spice, truffle, and licorice nuances open the nose. On the palate, the wine is soft, polished, fresh, dark, and chewy, with chalky, dark red pit fruits, along with touches of orange rind, espresso, and cocoa on the backend. Give this just a few years, and it will be fully ready-to-go. The wine blends 74% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 8% Cabernet Sauvignon.
