Note di degustazione
Lots of spicy, herbal, and earthy notes as well as solid red and black fruits emerge from the 2021 Château Bourgneuf, a medium-bodied, focused, foursquare, yet certainly charming Pomerol. A blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc from gravelly, clay soils, it should be given 3-4 years to let the tannins round out then enjoyed over the following decade.

The 2021 Bourgneuf has one of the better sets of aromatics on the nose, with a sense of brightness, éclat : black cherries intermixed with blueberry, violet and shavings of black truffle. The palate is medium-bodied with a sapid entry and fine depth, quite peppery in style with ample weight and delineation on the finish. Conspicuously spicy on the aftertaste, this is a Pomerol that I would like to have in my cellar.
The 2021 Bourgneuf is a delicate, charming Pomerol. Crushed flowers, spice, red berry fruit and orange peel are all nicely lifted. This is an especially perfumed, mid-weight vintage for Bourgneuf, a wine that has been bigger in the recent past.
The 2021 Bourgneuf has turned out better than I anticipated, and one senses its proximity to Trotanoy more clearly than was the case from barrel. Exhibiting aromas of sweet berries, cherries and licorice, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered, with good depth at the core, framed by sweet structuring tannins. While it will offer plenty of near-term appeal, don't discount its capacity to age.
