Some rain at harvest. Deep crimson. Aromatic. Smooth palate entry and then overwhelming tannins when tasted without food – considerably softened when served with veal tortellini in a meaty broth. Lots of impact. Still very youthful. (JR)

Full bottle 1,420 g. 100% Pignolo. Spontaneous fermentation in Georgian amphorae without temperature control and with long skin contact. Aged in large Slavonian oak casks for five years, followed by at least nine years in bottle. Very deep ruby. Saline, peppery dark fruit of immense depth but only reveals this in the glass over time. Old leather and a suggestion of soy sauce and liquorice. Deep red-fruit palate with youthful acidity and lots of gravelly tannins adding lots of depth. Long and opening up on the finish with layers of savoury fruit and tannins. A sensual experience more than a wine. Sensationally balanced. (WS)
