1955 Louis Roederer Cristal

The 1955 Cristal is a first for me. Rich and deep in the glass, with plenty of patina acquired over time, the 1955 takes the taster back in time by two generations. Apricot jam, hazelnut, cloves, coffee, worn-in leather and orange confit caress the palate. Dosage at the time was around 12 grams per liter, perhaps more. That is very much evident in the wine's textural feel. The 1955 is obviously fully mature. It won't get better from here, but it does make an extraordinary conclusion to this tasting. Dosage is 12 grams per liter. Disgorged: 1961.
