Another potential sleeper of the vintage from the Cuvelier family (owners of Leoville Poyferre), the 2011 Le Crock is a blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Possessing more texture, flesh and succulence than many St.-Estephes, this wine reveals a dark ruby color, a mulberry and black cherry-scented nose, medium body and atypically fine finish for a 2011. It should drink nicely for 7-8 years.
53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 9% Petit Verdot, 5% Cabernet Franc. Purple and pretty headily worked. This seems much richer and sweeter than a typical St-Estèphe would be. A bit cookie-cutter Médoc really rather than a wine with really distinct personality. A mass-market offering? Astringent finish. (JR)
