After the power of Clos de Vougeot (tasted just before), this Charmes-Chambertin feels lighter – yet there’s such grip and a mineral firmness that dominates the wine at this youthful stage. Iron and flint work alongside the bramble berries at the wine’s core.

Like several of the preceding wines, the mostly red berry fruit is bright and fresh with touches of forest floor and smoke adding breadth. The solidly concentrated broad-shouldered flavors possess a caressing but quite punchy mouthfeel where the punch also suffuses the bitter pit fruit-inflected finish that is clearly built-to-age.
