The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées 1er Cru has a strange nose with some issues with SO2 at first, clarifying to a degree after 15 minutes' aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with sour cherry and rather hard tannins (including wood tannins) that marginally dry out the finish. I cannot get on with this wine but I wonder if there is a better bottle out there. This wine left a room of seasoned tasters scratching their heads. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Mugnier's 2021 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées is pretty and fine-boned, wafting from the glass with notes of sweet red berries, peonies and orange zest, framed by an extremely discreet patina of sweet oak. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and enveloping, with a cool core of fruit, melting tannins and a saline finish, its structural charm renders it deceptively approachable, even if I think patience is in fact likely to be rewarded.

Again, it’s a little leafy and angular at the moment. Hopefully, it will gain more cohesion with bottle maturity.
