Here the much more gently oaked nose isn’t quite as fresh though it is a bit more elegant with its pretty aromas of dark currant, spiced plum and mix of floral elements. The freshness though picks up on the palate of the medium weight flavors that possess both good vibrancy and delineation before culminating in a youthfully austere finale. This fine but punchy effort is well-constituted to age over the mid to even longer-term. (90-92)/2031+

25% whole bunch, 25% new oak. Under Clos de la Roche. This was the first wine that Pascal Marchand made in the Côte de Nuits in 2005 and is one of his favourites. Barrel sample. Quite a deep purplish crimson. A firm, savoury focus of fruit. Though there is some light suggestion of oak on the muscular fruit and it’s just a little drying on the end. Needs quite a bit of time. But it should settle down and give pleasure, even if it’s a little jaggedly awkward at this early stage. (JR)
The 2019 Morey-Saint-Denis Clos des Ormes 1er Cru includes 25% whole bunch with 25% new oak. The strongly marine-influenced nose offers blackberry, iodine and light seaweed aromas. The palate is well balanced with fine mineralité , quite chalky in texture, with a fine bead of acidity and a very nicely poised finish. It fans out nicely with aeration and should evolve into an excellent, quite finessed Morey-Saint-Denis.
Made with 25% each of whole bunches and new wood. Rich purple, slightly backward nose, ripe fruit that is proving difficult to tease out. Rather more stylish at first on the palate, then a slightly more baked fruit behind, saved by some acidity to finish. OK but take a look at Les Millandes for preference, or better still the Genaivrières. Tasted: November 2020
