Punteggio 89/100 · Da bere 2016, David Schildknecht, Wine Advocate, Jun 2010

The Bouchard 2007 Chapelle Chambertin emphasizes the gamey, stony, chalky side of this site, in striking contrast with the intensely fruity though multi-faceted 2008 rendition. New leather and high-toned herbs play on a firmly tannic palate, with a stewed cherry and plum sense of fruit. Leather and game dominate the finish here, too, though one must credit it with formidable persistence. Yes, there is structure, but I think it would be fatuous to wait for the tannins here to “melt,” and I suspect the wine will only become more dominated by game and stones at the expense of fruit, so I’d tentatively plan to enjoy it over the next 4-6 years.

An elegant, pure, ripe, cool and layered nose of primarly red pinot fruit that has added depth in the form of Gevrey style earth notes as well as subtle underbrush and a smoky character that precedes the mineral and soil-driven medium full-bodied flavors that retain a fine sense of detail and verve on the long, complex and palate staining finish. This doesn't quite have the sheer depth of material as say the Bonnes Mares or the Bèze but it's not far off and I particularly admire the underlying sense of tension.

Saturated ruby-red. Wild black fruit and bitter chocolate aromas lifted by mint and orange peel. Wonderfully sweet and round-in fact, downright spherical in texture-with fully ripe berry flavors remaining just this side of exotic. A bit monolithic compared to a wine like the Bonnes-Mares but impressive nevertheless. Finishes with substantial ripe tannins. Like Bouchard's Clos de Beze, this wine is from Pierre Damoy fruit.
