Dark, bright red. Pungent, high-toned aromas of blackberry, bitter cherry, licorice and stony minerality. Ripe, pliant and savory, combining alluring chocolatey sucrosité with a juicy mineral character that I do not often find in this grand cru. Boasts outstanding potential but may also give early pleasure owing to its uncanny sweetness.

The 2013 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru has a ripe, candied bouquet with macerated black cherries mixed with raisin and orange peel, perhaps a little commercial compared to its peers, but nicely defined. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and good tension. This is fresh and focused, although at the moment it is missing some persistence on the finish.
