Perennially a singular wine, the 2021 La Flor de Jonata spent 11 months in equal parts stainless tank, neutral and new French oak. The nose is decidedly tropical and exotic, with passion fruit and candied lime aromas accented by sourdough crust and blanched almonds. The palate falls between plump ripeness and silky precision, finishing on a soft note lined with subtle acidity. It's a blend of 85% Sauvignon Blanc and 15% Sémillon.

85% Sauvignon Blanc (Musque clone), 15% Sémillon (No. 2 clone). Aged 11 months 30% in new French oak, 30% in neutral French oak and 30% in stainless-steel tank. Super-inviting nose with the right balance of exotic and elegant. Lots going on: guava and a tropical array of flavours. However, the fruit feels dry and refined. This wine is exciting and fun, with more layers of grapefruit and a spicy hint. It is persistent and, despite its 14.5% alcohol, it is fully integrated. (FG)
The 2021 Flor is very restrained in this vintage, with lovely inner perfume and fine balance. Orchard fruit, sage, mint and dried flowers are nicely delineated. This has lovely energy. In 2021, Flor is quite floral and ethereal, but also perhaps a bit light.
A Sauvignon Blanc-based white (there's 10% Semillon), the light gold-hued 2021 Flor has quintessential aromatics of honeyed grapefruit, candied lemon zest, and hints of minty, herbal nuances to go with a medium-bodied, vibrant, racy style on the palate that brings solid mid-palate depth as well as a great finish. It will be incredibly versatile on the dinner table and evolve for 7-8 years, although I like it just fine in its fruit-driven youth.
