Da bere 2027-2035, FINE+RARE, Nov 2023

Fourrier’s village Gevrey, from three hectares of vines, represents a third of the estate’s production. One-third comes from the bottom of the village, with sandy soil, lending fruitiness. Another plot sits below the Grands Crus – with more clay, adding power and structure. The third component is below Premier Cru Les Champeaux and gives balance and finesse. The average age of vines is an impressive 60 years, with none younger than 40. The 2022 is a very serious wine – juicy and bright but with concentrated blackberry fruit that gives it power. There’s a mineral delicacy to the wine, a stony purity that complements the sweetness of the seamlessly ripe fruit. Mouth-wateringly fresh, with a saline note that leaves you gasping for another sip, the finish is long and lingering, drizzled with blueberry coulis. Aged in 10% new oak.

Cask sample. More finesse here. Very precise tannin, spicy notes, appealing redcurrant and raspberry leaf on the nose. Good concentration, mineral and lively aftertaste. (AWH)

Fourrier's 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes offers up aromas of sweet, jammy cherries, berries and licorice, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and succulent palate with an ample core of pure, sun-kissed fruit.

Cask sample. Light crimson. Intense aroma of small wild red berries. Captivatingly moreish, sweet red-and-black fruit. Terrific harmony already. Pure fruit and firm but finely built tannins. Subtle, the tannins building on the long finish. (JH)
