Pierre and Marianne Duroché have 0.25 hectares of vines in Chambertin Clos de Bèze, eight rows in the middle of the vineyard stretching from the bottom to the top of the slope. This slither of prime terroir was all planted in 1920, and is their most prized cuvée. The 2022 is extraordinary. There is such sweetness and depth here, with a quiet intensity. It seems delicate with its crunchy blueberry and raspberry fruit driving the palate, but there’s a deceptive mineral power here, with seamlessly fine, subtle tannins that gradually build – telling of the wine’s longevity. Extraordinary Pinot Noir.

The 2022 Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru has also turned out beautifully, unfurling in the glass with notes of blackberries and sweet red fruits mingled with rose petals, blood orange, spices and licorice. Full-bodied, ample and satiny, it's rich and layered, with an enveloping core of fruit, succulent acids and a broad, saline finish.

Domaine Duroché has, under Pierre Duroché, become one of the most sought-out and respected wine domaines in Gevrey-Chambertin. The wines are delicate and detailed, yet with old-vine intensity, a clear sense of place and style – and it’s easy to see why they’ve rapidly become so in-demand.
