A relatively cool, damp year. Mid ruby. There is great sweetness and lightness and transparency. Compelling and a little gamey. Chewy finish and very youthful but it was great with fresh mozzarella. Muscular. Very lava led. (JR)

The 2011 Etna Rosso Archineri is weighed down in 2011 by heavy aromas of Band-Aid and dried earth. The wine is disjointed with less clarity and purity of varietal voice. Drink 2014-2016. Located in Solicchiata, Michele Faro is among the new faces on Etna and a member of the fledgling group winemakers known as the “Etna Boys.” The estate was founded in 2005 and has 11 hectares of vineyard on the north face of Etna ranging from 600 to 900 meters above sea level. 100% Nerello Mascalese. Just mid ruby. A little wild and savoury on the nose. Bold tannins. Very long. Patience needed. (WS)
100% Carricante. Straw yellow, with some CO2 bubbles sticking to the glass. Very ripe white fruits, on the verge of being overripe. Orange undertones. Contrasting lemony palate with spicy notes. Much finer on the finish than on the nose. Needs time. (WS)
