Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2027-2048, Neal Martin, Oct 2025

The 2021 Chambertin Grand Cru has a strangely evolved bouquet with open-knit red cherries and strawberry fruit, though it does not quite deliver the depth of its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red cherry and raspberry fruit on the entry. Fine backbone here, tensile, and there is a tangy blood orange note towards the sapid finish that just flees out of the exit door a little too hastily. Those quibbles aside, there remains a very classy Chambertin here. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Cask sample. Mid crimson. Quite ripe on the nose and just a touch raisiny – not sure if this is the wine or the sample. Difficult to score because of that raisiny quality. Firm tannins. (JH)

The 2021 Chambertin Grand Cru is very harmonious and focused on the nose, demonstrating much more intensity and complexity than the Latricières and Chapelle-Chambertin. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, lightly spiced, quite saline with a touch of bitter orange and marmalade on the finish. It just has more substance than others, hence my higher score.
