The 2009 Roc de Cambes is quite backward like the 2009 La Gomerie with ample redcurrant, raspberry, loam and sandalwood aromas eventually coming through with aeration. It does not quite possess the cohesion of its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, velvety smooth in texture with a lovely dash of black pepper and clove that infuses the plush red fruit. Firmly into its secondary phase, this feels à point , though I appreciate the persistency on the finish. Very fine. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 2009 Bordeaux tasting.

Tasted blind. Developed dark garnet. Rather roasted, overripe notes on the nose. A bit soulless – lots of frame but not enough to put in it. Very drying finish. Masses of aggressive tannins and heat on the end. (JR)
Mitjavile: 'I like flavours that are strange and trouble you. The most strange vintage of my life.' Deepest garnet. Very very ripe black flavours. Almost a coaly darkness. Char. Very dry but very sweet – a wine of complete contrasts of dry and sweet. Smooth and ripe but still with freshness. Impressive depth and length but without this wine's more typically seductive character. (JH)
Racy, coffee notes. Very sweet start. A little severe on the finish. Very youthful. (JR)
