Tasted blind in Hong Kong, I was actually a little disappointed by the Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Rouge from Grivot. It has a tightly-wound, rather muted bouquet with raspberry jam and struck match scents. The palate feels quite firm in the mouth with decent backbone, but the fruit seems to drop away dramatically toward the finish that is consequently quite austere. The word I wrote in my notebook was "gawky."
