Opaque ruby. Powerful, deep-pitched aromas or ripe dark berries, smoky Indian spices and licorice are lent vibrancy by a smoky mineral overtone. Sweet and seamless in texture, offering intense black raspberry and floral pastille flavors supported by juicy acidity. Smoothly combines richness and vivacity and finishes very long and sappy, showing smooth, building tannins and a lingering berry liqueur note. As rich and ageworthy as this wine is, it's also got a lot of upfront, fruit-driven appeal.

Another outstanding wine from Yves is the 2013 Chateauneuf du Pape Habemux Papam. It offers classic notes of roasted Provencal herbs, pan drippings, black cherries and licorice-soaked currants in a medium to full-bodied, elegant and textured package. While not a heavy weight, it has solid underlying tannin that are covered by a silky, seamless texture, and it has both class and elegance. Drink it anytime over the coming decade.
80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre. Dark crimson. Pale rim. Quite interesting ripe, complex aromas. Racy, lively, medium-intensity correct flavours. Very juicy. But pretty austere on the end. Fades fast. (JR)
