This is riper and more overt than many burgundies, much more modern and open than you might expect from Gevrey. Sleek, ripe and fruit-driven. (RH)

The cooler and more elegant aromas of violet, lavender, wild red berries and soft sauvage whiffs are also trimmed in moderate oak. There is a fine sense of underlying tension to the delicious flavors that brim with minerality while the lingering and refreshing finish is shaped by finer, and more pliant, tannins.
The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Goulots 1er Cru is 50% whole bunch with 35% new oak (Raymond cooperage). It conveys more fruité on the nose of red currant and cranberry, although I find more terroir expression on the La Perrière this year. The palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannins, taut and spicy from the oak, and integrated with a grippy finish. Give this 4–5 years in bottle because there is fine matière here.
