Punteggio 90+/100 · Da bere 2023-2030, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2017

Good full red. Scented aromas of blackberry, cassis, licorice, menthol and herbs (some stems were used here) are rather cool for the year and a bit forbidding. Supple on entry, then quite tight in the middle palate, with dark berry, crushed cherry, spice and menthol flavors leading to a firmly tannic, slightly dusty finish. Showing little obvious sweetness today, this youthfully tough wine is in need of patience.

(this wine, as well as the Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses and Musigny, was vinified with a percentage of whole clusters): Deep red-ruby. Black raspberry, blackberry and menthol on the nose. Sweet and floral but also incisive and energetic, even youthfully imploded, with dark berry flavors complicated by flowers and minerals and buttressed by a very strong impression of acidity. This juicy wine should be a very good ager.

Hint of toasty oak at first and vanilla sweetness, a little spirity, perhaps because the fruit is not so intense, then a little darker fruited on the palate than the Porrets Dt-Georges. A bit lean but made to the character of the vintage, ie not trying to make it something it isn’t. Lightish tannins. Juicy, mouth-watering finish. (JH)
