The 1979 Suduiraut is not offensive but is a forgettable wine. Smudged on the nose with mothball scents permeating the peach and pineapple aromas, it just feels muddled and cannot disguise some grey rot. The palate displays better balance than you might presuppose and there is a nice dab of stem ginger/rhubarb on the finish. But you need low expectations to really enjoy this. Tasted at a private dinner in London.
One of the top 1979s, Suduiraut has produced an uncommonly rich, deep, powerful wine for this vintage. The wine is medium golden, with a ripe, toasty, caramel and apricot-scented bouquet, full body, plenty of viscous fruit, and a long finish. Anticipated maturity: Now. Last tasted, 3/84.
