2018 Gevrey Chambertin Petite Chapelle

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Petite Chapelle 1er Cru is very expressive and charming on the nose, touches of blueberry and cassis joining the ebullient red fruit that soars from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine grip and plenty of substance on the minerally finish. Superb.

A brooding mix features notes of both red and dark cherry, raspberry and plenty of floral elements. The sleek, intense and even more mineral-inflected medium weight flavors possess a dusty if slightly dry and short finish. This is certainly pretty but the balance isn't what it could be and, like the Clos Prieur, it's not clear whether it will ultimately harmonize.

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Petite Chapelle 1er Cru has an expressive, seductive bouquet of ample red cherries, crushed strawberry and rose petal notes; menthol aromas emerge with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, and quite saline and spicy, especially toward the finish, which exerts a gentle grip. Great potential here.
