The 2018 Extra-Brut Hors Série is superb. This really bristles with tension and energy, while also offering more mid-palate presence than the 2017 tasted alongside it. White flowers, chalk, mint, slate and lemon oil stain the palate. This chiseled, beautifully sculpted Champagne has so much to offer. The eternal finish is impossible to miss. Dosage is 0.75 grams per liter.

100% Chardonnay. Avize grand cru. Dosage 2 g/l. Disgorged June 2023. It's magnificent. Purity, integrity, clarity, purpose – from beginning to end. There is a richness, concentration and shimmering intensity that one finds in botrytised dessert wines – dried apricots, membrillo, maple and marmalade. But it's bone dry. It's opulent, but it's bone dry. And controlled. Chiselled and gleaming. A glorious and very exciting wine. (TC)
The 2018 Extra-Brut Hors Série is 100% Chardonnay from villages in the Côtes des Blancs. Aromatic and expressive, the Hors Série also shows all the textural intensity and nuance that are such house signatures here. I find the 2018 a bit less defined and articulate than the other wines in this tasting. Floral, citrus, almond and orchard notes are nicely amplified. There's a touch more oak influence in the Hors Série, which also suggests a somewhat intrinsically lighter wine. Dosage is 3 grams per liter. Disgorged: March 2023.
