The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes has an engaging bouquet with perfumed red fruit tinged with wet clay/undergrowth aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine bead of acidity, quite elegant in the mouth with a tart red cherry finish that has gained some length since I tasted it from barrel. Very fine. Tasted at the Domaine.

Cask sample. Lightish crimson. Prettily scented on the nose then more meaty on the palate. Definitely something to get your teeth into. Dense and full-fruited, compact and rounded tannins. Impressive harmony in this more savoury style. (JH)

The 2016 Gevrey Chambertin Vieilles Vignes comes from vines averaging over sixty years and this vintage includes two-thirds whole bunch fruit and 15% new oak. It has a perfumed bouquet, quite earthy...think of walking through a dewy, muddy woodland on an early spring morning. The palate is at least fresh on the entry with fine acidity, simple compared to previous vintage but with an agreeable, unimposing, dark cherry and raspberry finish that just misses a little aftertaste.
