The 2016 Paveil de Luze shows better than the previous bottle several years ago. At ten years of age, it has a bright and vivid bouquet with blackberry, briar and cedar unfolding in the glass, just a patina of oak to be assimilated. The palate is medium-bodied with a medicinal entry, clean and pure fruit, but it doesn't quite kick on and comes across a little one-dimensional on the finish. The 2016 Paveil de Luze is terrific. Wafting from the glass with notions of crème de cassis, loamy soil, cigar wrapper, pencil shavings, dark chocolate and rose petals, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with fine depth at the core and a more introverted, tightly wound profile than the 2019.
80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot. 30% new oak for 12 months. Mid to dark crimson. Sweet start and then slightly pinched. Without the sweet core of fruit that was evident in the Deyrem Valentin but respectable enough. (JR)
