Big, round and sweet. Very rich and hedonistic overall. Rich with a touch of brulée on the finish. Very impressive and quite a rarity. (JR)

Bright red-ruby. Vibrant, pure aromas of black cherry, blackberry, licorice, coffee and game. Juicy, concentrated and lively, with excellent intensity and verve. Conveys an impression of stronger acidity and more primary fruit than Mortet's collection of 2003s. Finishes with very fine tannins and noteworthy length. An excellent village wine.
Produced from 50 year old vines, the spicy 2002 Gevrey-Chambertin Combe du Dessus is a boldly-flavored, ample, medium to full-bodied effort. This huge candied, generous wine bastes the palate with unctuous waves of sweet dark fruits that linger in its lengthy finish. It is concentrated, seamless, and deep. Drink it over the next 6-7 years. Importer: Martine’s Wines, Novato, CA; tel. (415) 883-0400
(from 50-year-old vines; Mortet describes this as his best terroir among his village holdings in Gevrey) Saturated ruby-red color. Black raspberry, coffee and animal fur aromas. Sweet, dense and creamy; large-scaled, concentrated, full and satisfying. Conveys an impression of tiny berries. Very harmonious wine with a ripely tannic, very fine back end. This fruit was picked on September 18 with 13.8% natural sugar, according to Mortet. Should make a fabulous village wine.
