The 2021 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru is showing some oak on the nose, a little vanillary at present, more Côte de Beaune than Chablis. Maybe that's what you want? The palate is, again, showing too much reduction at the moment, which renders this rather generic. It is not unattractive but feels overworked in the winery. Perplexing. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2021 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru is still quite austere on the nose, backward and almost surly in style with touches of wet stone, orchard fruit and saffron. The palate is well-balanced and poised, though perhaps it hasn't developed the panache of other cuvées and feels a bit "contained" on the finish. Maybe it is just biding its time?
Aromas of peach, orange zest, lemon oil, white flowers and nutmeg introduce the 2021 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre, a medium to full-bodied, satiny and fleshy wine that's impressively concentrated for the vintage, with racy acids and a bright, saline finish.
