Punteggio 16.5/20 · Da bere 2021-2027, Tamlyn Currin, jancisrobinson.com, Nov 2021

Full bottle 1,5.5 g. NBH! Dark cherries and soot-dipped, inky mulberries under a thicket swarm of tannins. Big, big tannins. Although, to be fair, the fruit is big and bold as well. Chewy. Loaded with tapenade and the finish is a little bit like licking the cold stones that ringed the campfire the night before. Dried thyme. Pretty direct and slightly tough acidity. A little wild, but if you're drinking this with something equally deep, brooding and wild, all you will hear is the clear song of the fruit. (TC)

The Marina Cvetić 2017 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva S. Martino Rosso is a full and generous wine that nails both the traits of the hot vintage and this super soft and velvety grape variety squarely on the head. You get a lot of pretty intensity here with black cherry fruit, blackberry, sweet spice and tobacco. The wine is richly textured and full-bodied, or perfect with an epic T-bone steak on the grill with a side of fried potatoes to soak up the meat juice on your plate.

The 2017 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Riserva S. Martino Rosso is dark and moody in the glass, lifting up with an understated display of black fruit and a hint of peppery violet and rose tones. This is silky in texture, contrasting tart wild berries with lifting mineral and herbal notes, as fine tannins amass toward the close. It tapers off structured, hinting at remnants of licorice and tarry red berries. The 2017 will require some patience to allow it to flesh out and integrate its wood influence, yet I wonder if there’s enough fruit here to ever come fully into balance.
