Glowing ruby. Interesting treacly nose and then lots of sweet fruit. Just a little bit of heat on the finish. Not the most appetising but it’s quite emphatic. (JR)
Tasted blind. Glowing blackish crimson. Rather glamorous nose. Spice, then a dry but not excessively drying finish with savoury notes. Not very classic St-Émilion; I wouldn’t be surprised to come across this as an ‘icon wine’ almost anywhere warm enough in the world but it’s well made and well balanced. (JR)
The 2015 Villemaurine is one of the more overt, flamboyant wines of the vintage. Super-ripe black cherry, chocolate, spice, new leather and licorice build as this racy Saint-Émilion shows off its alluring personality. There is a plenty to like. I would prefer to drink the 2015 over the next decade or so. The blend is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. Tasted two times.
