The 2018 Pouilly-Fuissé is a gorgeous example of the appellation. Sensual in feel, the 2018 opens up beautifully on the palate. Lemon confit, apricot and chamomile are some of the notes that infuse the 2018 with striking layers of both depth and complexity. This is a terrific entry-level offering.

The 2018 Pouilly-Fuissé comes from two hectares on Solutré rock and is aged in barrel with 15% new oak. It has a lively hazelnut and walnut bouquet, oddly reminiscent of a Meursault Genevrières, which is not a bad thing when you think about it. The palate is well balanced with hints of peach and pineapple on the entry, fine weight in the mouth and a precise if not overly complex finish. Very fine.
3 ha (7 acres) from Solutré, scattered parcels around the hill. All fermented and aged in fûts with 15% new. Treated like a premier cru. Harvested 26 August to 1 September. Solutré ripened quickly but old vines so not as high yields as in Beaune. Tank sample. Much more creamy and rounded. But salty too. This is so impressive, tight, stony but concentrated fruit even if it is not really fruity in flavour. Drive, power and freshness. (JH)
