Very attractive aromas of dark berries and flowers with some walnuts and spices. Full body, firm and silky tannins and a juicy finish. Tight and linear with very pretty depth of fruit. Already a beauty but better in 2021 when the tannins soften slightly.
The top cuvee of the estate and vinified at Château Rigaud, the 2015 La Mauriane is 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc brought up in plenty of new oak. Boasting a deep inky color and impressive notes of ripe black fruits, cedar, lead pencil, saddle leather and earth, this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a stacked mid-palate, fine tannin and plenty of length. Oenologist Claude Gros also consults here, and this is a beautiful Saint-Emilion to enjoy over the coming 15 years or more. Tasted twice.
