Note di degustazione
Made from a small barrel selection, the 2017 V is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with 13% Merlot. The nose is fresh with ripe, succulent aromas of dark cherry and spiced sour plums before notions of crème de cassis waft from the glass. Full-bodied, tight and complex, the mouthfeel offers a balanced structure with succulent acidity and a lingering tannic edge that ends with a food-friendly finish. It will remain steadfast and pleasurable for at least a couple of decades. Nicely done!

The 2017 V blends 87% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Merlot matured in 100% new French oak. It has a fresher nose than the Cabernet Sauvignon reserve, with wild berry fruit, cedar and mint coming through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with firm but saturated tannins and fine acidity. It’s cohesive with a graphite-infused, quite persistent and poised finish. Give it another 2-3 years in bottle.
The 2017 Vergelegen V 1700 has a very different nose to the 2015, more opulent and savoury, perhaps without quite the same level of focus. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, a little softer and just missing the backbone displayed by the previous vintage. It just seems slightly off the pace compared to the 2015 tasted alongside.
