Punteggio 89/100 · Da bere 2017-2025, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Mar 2017

The 1995 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is a wine that I tasted five years ago, and this bottle suggests that it was a good but not great offering from the domaine. The nose is more mature now with wild strawberry, leather and black truffle, a subtle minuteness that develops with continued aeration. The palate is again slightly minty on the entry, those chunky tannins having softened in recent years although it perhaps lacks the density and harmony of a truly great Clos de Vougeot. While I cannot see it falling off a cliff, this is a wine that is not going to improve with continued bottle age. Tasted November 2016.

Excellent deep red. Complex aromas of red- and blackcurrants, minerals and smoke, along with an herbal topnote; smells much sweeter from bottle than it did a year ago from barrel. Sweet, broad and deep; less complex today in the mouth than the Ruchottes, but offers terrific texture. The tannins hit the palate earlier than those of the Ruchottes, but there also very strong, persistent back-end fruit flavor.
