Punteggio 91+/100 · Da bere 2024-2036, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2016

Bright red with ruby highlights. Flamboyantly ripe aromas of blackberry liqueur, licorice pastille, spices and menthol. Plush, sweet and superconcentrated; as dense as a solid. A no-holds-barred wine with huge, chewy tannins. This very powerful but youthfully monolithic grand cru will need extended aging to burn off its baby fat and gain in precision.

Punteggio 17/20 · Da bere 2018-2030, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, Jan 2015

Restrained, clean dark fruit. Finest of tannins, dry, fresh and elegant. Doesn't have great intensity but makes up for it in persistence. Juicy finish. (JH)

(from vines on the Morey-Saint-Denis side of the appellation; Bruno Clair will take back these vines in 2015): Dark red. Blue fruits and peppery spices on the nose. Dense, sappy and backward, with electric grip to the imploded flavors of black and blue fruits, pepper and cumin. This wonderfully sappy if rather muscular wine finishes with a serious tannic spine and a zesty quality that leaves the salivary glands quivering. For all its energy, this fruit was also the highest in potential alcohol among this set of wines, at 12.7%.

The 2013 Bonnes Mares Grand Cru, which is only contracted up until 2015, has a sensual and generous bouquet with wild strawberry, raspberry and pomegranate interlaced with orange blossom and undergrowth. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannins, quite sensual and rounded in the mouth, but just missing some sophistication toward the finish. I will seek to re-evaluate this after bottling.
