Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru les Fuées from Ghislaine-Barthod has a tightly wound bouquet with undergrowth infused red berry fruit, a little rustic in style with autumn leaves, tree bark and spicebox aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, supple tannins. The acidity here is assiduously judged, very focused and poised with a caressing, natural finish. After the odd showing of Ghislaine's "Les Cras" 2012, this is much more encouraging - a really quite delectable Chambolle-Musigny from one of its finest growers.

Moderately saturated medium red. Knockout nose combines red cherry, strawberry liqueur, crushed stone and graphite minerality. Fat, silky and fine-grained, showing subtle energy to the broad flavors of wild red fruits and wild herbs. More a wine of finesse than a 2012 powerhouse. Finishes with suave tannins and lovely subtle perfume. This should evolve beautifully.
Medium red. Very ripe red fruits and spicy herbs on the reticent nose, accented by a fruit zest quality. Big, chewy, rich and dry; youthfully bound-up but boasts impressive intensity and a distinctly tactile mouth feel. This very concentrated wine is hiding more than it's showing today, with the rather tough tannins currently cutting off the fruit. My score is just an approximation.
