Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2027-2040, Neal Martin, Oct 2025

The 2021 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru feels rather oaky on the nose compared to others, not quite as well knitted and obscuring some of the terroir expression. The palate is balanced with a tangy entry, quite spicy and fresh with some solids lending complexity towards the finish. This develops nicely in bottle although it feels a bit fragile on the finish. Maybe give it a few more months in bottle. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2021 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru comes from 40-year-old vines, vinified 15% in barrel and 85% in stainless steel before aging in barrel for 12 months. It feels very primal on the nose and takes time to unfurl. It never achieves the previous vintage’s class, compromised by the growing season, of course. The palate is well-balanced with a sapid entry and gentle grip, quite sappy in the mouth with a classically styled, oyster shell-tinged finish. It feels a bit rough around the edges…but I like that. I am intrigued to see how this will age.

The 2021 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru comes from 2.5-hectares from parcels located from the bottom to the top of the slope, 20% fermented in new oak and aged entirely in wood. It has quite a powerful bouquet; although, I think it would have been a little more sharp with some proportion raised in stainless steel. The palate is well balanced with good weight, a subtle nuttiness on the entry, notes of orange rind and citrus peel; the 2021 is quite linear on the finish and lingers nicely in the mouth. I think this will gain complexity by the time it is bottled next year.
