Punteggio 91/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2012

Bright, deep red. Very ripe aromas of black raspberry, mocha and chocolate show much more lift than the village offering. A very rich, sweet fruit bomb with a texture of liquid velvet. Cherry, raspberry and chocolate flavors build slowly on the back end, spreading out to saturate the palate and covering the wine's ripe tannins. A superb showing, and already quite accessible.

The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin – 1er Cru is made from parcels in Craipillot and Perrière vinified together. Floral, minty notes lead to sweet spices and licorice as this delicate, layered wine shows off its class. The aromas and flavors resonate beautifully off the palate as the wine works its way through to the multi-dimensional finish.

(Not yet released) Claude Dugat farms 16 hectares, of which only 3 are owned. Dugat waited until September 20 to start harvesting. The fruit was 100% destemmed and spent 15 days on the skins with two punchdowns a day and no pumpovers. The wine was pressed, left 48 hours to decant and moved into barrel. The wines were racked the following April and were bottled with no fining or filtration. The Bourgogne were aged in neutral oak, the Villages and 1ers saw 50% new oak and the Grand Crus saw 100% new oak. Importer: Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC; tel. (202) 832-9083

Good red-ruby color. Offers more lift on the nose than the village wine, but still a superripe quality to the dark cherry and mineral aromas. Then sweet, ripe and rich on the palate, with stronger fruit and mineral flavors along with a distinctly chocolatey quality. A bit aggressive today, finishing with building tannins.
