Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2023-2034, Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux, Sep 2023

Huge concentration, with smoked spice and fresh acidities, majoring on cassis and blueberry fruits. Unfussy and charming, tannins already supple, this is an enjoyable, early drinking Margaux with crushed rosebud notes as it opens. A high proportion of Petit Verdot in this vintage because they lost lost 70% of the crop to mildew, a particular blow after losing everything to frost in 2017 (it was the first serious frost since 1991, so they were really was taken by surprise although have since invested in various counter-measures). It means they produced 30,000 bottes (usually up to 150,000) from a yield of 10hl/h. 100% French oak (as of 2019 they began to add some amphoras into the ageing mix). Winemaker and co-owner Benjamin Sichel.

Offering up aromas of rich blackberry and cassis fruit mingled with notions of smoked meats, cigar wrapper and loamy soil, the 2018 D'Angludet is medium to full-bodied, rich and characterful, with ripe tannins and a fleshy core of fruit. Somewhat wild, meaty aromatics and flavors detract from the purity of an otherwise compelling effort.

The 2018 Angludet has a very attractive bouquet of pure blackberry and blueberry fruit, a discreet floral element and glimpses of cassis coming through with aeration. It is delicate but very refined. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, a little pinched on the entry but gradually fanning out toward the finish, which is detailed and full of tension. One of the best vintages of Angludet that I have tasted in recent years.
