Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2025-2045, Jeb Dunnuck, Feb 2025

A blend of 92% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2022 Château Sansonnet is gorgeous stuff, offering cassis, crushed stone, graphite, and truffly aromatics. Beautifully pure and medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has integrated acidity, a fresh, focused style, and ripe tannins. Balanced and seamless, it shows the terroir’s freshness and precision while still bringing concentration and texture. Aged for 18 months in 70% new oak barrels, this should drink well for 20+ years. Total production: 1,166 cases.

The 2022 Sansonnet presents a high-toned and extroverted bouquet of peppermint-tinged black fruit. The medium-bodied palate is actually quite Californian in style, with plush tannins and a fleshy texture. Sweet and sensual with touches of vanilla on the finish, this delicious wine is just missing a little typicité .

A modern and dense St.-Emilion with rich, glossy fresh fruit. Plums, dark chocolate, fine spices and a hint of olives on the nose. Juicy, with some nicely tart berries and dusty tannins on the full-bodied palate. Concentrated and tight in the finish, but polished. Very well executed. Drink from 2028.

Intense, powerful, concentrated, this starts off with a bitter cocoa and aniseed then switches towards softer creamy blackberry. This is the highest amount of Cabernet Franc in recent vintages. First classified vintage, with 5.8ha of the vineyard, vinification in the old cellars of Valandraud in the village of St Emilion.
