Fragrant spice and redcurrant fruit, dry and firm – good, typical structure for Gevrey. The palate remains somewhat straightforward though. (RH)

The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin Village comes from 17 different parcels over ten hectares. It has a feisty and exuberant bouquet with touches of orange sorbet infusing the kirsch and redcurrant aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, quite masculine and firm in the mouth, but feels just a little clipped on the finish compared to the Nuits Saint-Georges, which felt more cohesive at the moment.
(Bouchard manages 17 different plots covering 10 hectares, and makes roughly 50,000 bottles a year of this juice; vinified with 30% whole clusters): Bright, dark red with ruby tones. Cool aromas of blackberry, boysenberry, mint and licorice are complicated by stony minerality. A pliant, juicy midweight with lovely density and intensity to its dark berry flavors. Finishes with firm but fine-grained tannins and very good length. Should make an excellent village wine.
