Punteggio 91+/100 · Da bere 2024-2033, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jan 2018

Healthy bright red. Reticent, medicinal aromas of cherry, licorice and mint convey a cool quality for this very ripe vintage. Considerably more backward on the palate than the 1er Cru; more linear, saline and dense but less tasty in the early going, offering a flavor of tart cherry stomp. Finishes savory and firm, clearly in need of five or six years of cellaring. These vines suffered from an element of hydric stress during the hot, dry summer of 2015.

Heady nose. Smooth but just a little formless. A little sour on the end. Not charming. (JR)

Healthy dark red. Slightly high-toned aromas of black cherry, spices, licorice and minerals. Densely packed and ripe, offering excellent savory depth and alluring sucrosité . The rather high-pH impression may be due to a bit of hydric stress in these vines, which were nonetheless picked at the beginning of the harvest. Finishes with compelling sweetness. The crop level here was under 35 hectoliters per hectare, according to Dugat.

The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques was maybe not quite as expressive on the nose as the Gevrey premier cru at the moment, although it began to open, offering black cherry and blackcurrant leaf scents, entwined with a touch of cold stone. The palate is medium-bodied with exquisite delineation, lovely poise and elegance here, gently building to a very nuanced and yet composed, harmonious finish. This just comes across as being so natural. This is the best Lavaux Saint-Jacques produced from Domaine Dugat.
